Bolt Breakers Will Debut Ahead of Super Bowl 50 and Culminate at SXsports
CHICAGO (February 3, 2016) — Today Gatorade announced the launch of Bolt Breakers, an innovation project developed in collaboration with some of the world’s top tech companies. The project’s goal is to develop new technology platforms that will ultimately help athletes fuel their game. Gatorade will host a kickoff event with partners CoreSyte, Facebook, Spotify and Twitter in Sausalito on Friday, February 5 of Super Bowl week. The Bolt Breakers project will culminate at SXsports where partners will unveil their innovative ideas to assist athletes in performing at their best.
At the event, project leaders from each of the four tech companies will meet with a panel of experts including Gatorade Head of Innovation and Design Xavi Cortadellas, Gatorade Sports Science Institute Director Dr. James Carter, Houston Texans Defensive End J.J. Watt and Chicago Sky Forward Elena Delle Donne, as well as coaches, athletic trainers and registered dietitians, to gain insights about athletes’ daily habits and needs.
Teams at CoreSyte, Facebook and Twitter will spend the next six weeks developing platforms specifically designed to connect with athletes and offer solutions for those needs. In addition, Gatorade will continue discussions with Spotify to better understand how music affects athletic performance. By collaborating with these companies and sharing insights the brand has gained from decades of working with athletes, Gatorade hopes to be able to provide athletes with new digital technologies they can use both on and off the field.
Each of the four companies will share their ideas on March 12 at an event at SXsports in Austin, Texas, where Gatorade will again bring together a panel of experts and technology partners to review their work.
“Innovation has always been at the core of who we are as a brand, so we are excited to collaborate with four of the world’s leading tech companies to provide athletes with new solutions,” said Gatorade Head of Innovation and Design, Xavi Cortadellas. “I know all of us at Gatorade are looking forward to seeing what our partners develop and we are eager to help implement each of their new platforms.”
Cortadellas and the innovation team work with the scientists at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute to lead Gatorade’s innovation efforts, gathering data and collecting feedback from athletes to better understand their nutrition needs. The resulting insights have led to the design and development of new products and technologies currently in the Gatorade innovation pipeline.
Bolt Breakers comes on the heels of Gatorade’s recent unveiling of its new Hydration Customization Platform (HCP), which features a smart cap bottle that tracks real-time fluid intake data. This new integrated platform analyzes athletes’ individual hydration needs and offers a range of formulations and specialized equipment engineered to fuel athletic performance.
