Garmin Built A Free User-Generated Map Community For Fisherman

Last week, Garmin announced the Quickdraw Community, “a free online user-generated platform where users share and browse HD mapping content and download the data free of charge to enhance and supplement existing mapping options.”

Boaters and fishermen will benefit from the new online information hub developed from data collected and shared by anyone using Garmin’s Quickdraw Contours technology. This software feature creates “personalized HD maps with 1-foot contours of any body of water” and stores it to any SD card, all in real-time as the boat is in motion.

“Garmin customers have been collecting Quickdraw Contours mapping and depth data on their devices since the free software feature became available earlier this year, and now they have a way to easily share that data with others,” Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales, Dan Bartel, said in the announcement.

Individuals who use any Panoptix transducer can record up to about 9,000 acres of contours on a 2 GB SD card and upload any new data to the Quickdraw Community as many times as they like. Conversely, a customizable area of prerecorded contours can be downloaded from the site to the SD card for use with the appropriate equipment.

Currently, Gamin lists 18 compatible devices available to work with the material found on the Quickdraw Community website.
