Fusion Sport’s SMARTABASE Helps Teams Train, Prevent Injury

No matter the sport, teams deal with a lot of data. The crucial part is sorting through it and figuring out what’s important when looking to improve athlete performance and injury prevention. Fusion Sport has a unique platform called SMARTABASE that’s helping many professional and college teams do just that.

Most teams that approach Fusion Sport are at the point where something is taking too much time and they’re ready for the next step. “They have some data, they want to try and make some sense of it and they have been doing that but they’re doing it in a cumbersome process,” explained Fusion Sport’s Business Development Executive, Derek Wester.

A main draw for teams is the customizability of SMARTABASE. “We know that there is no one magic pill and there is no one way to do things,” Wester said.

This is crucial for obvious reasons — first being that different sports require different analysis. Although, by the same token, even two basketball teams might put a different amount of stock in a single element.

We have strength coaches that have experience all over the globe, and they have their own calculations that they want to run,” Wester explained. “One organization might have one piece of tech that they believe in and another one has a different one and they all have different questions and do different things.”

SMARTABASE can also be a time saver for an organization. Some of Fusion Sport’s clients would have athletic trainers on the sidelines tracking things using a tablet. However, with their old platform they would need WiFi or cell service, then connect to the server, login, etc.

“That’s like seven or eight steps they had to get into to write down one thing on the sideline,” Wester said. “Our system can work offline or online and you just have it there on the iPad and can type in anything you want and sync the data later.”

Coaches, athletes, trainers and all involved in a sports organization have a lot on their plate. Fusion Sport’s goal is to make things simple and integrated for all parties.

“The teams that end up coming to us are the ones who have been there and done that and they’re ready for something that allows them the flexibility to do what they feel is important for their success as an organization,” Wester said.
