Fox Sports Australia Features Augmented Reality In App For Bathurst 1000 Supercars Race

Fox Sports Australia released its Fox Vision app that provides augmented reality experiences for users who are following the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 Supercars race in Australia this weekend.

The app enables live-tracking of the top 10 cars and drivers as they can be seen on a 3D map of the Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst. The app also features a game that lets users remote-control drive their Supercars virtually in 3D or on a miniature Bathurst track.

“Our determination to innovate across all of our sports rights and platforms is driven by one thing: to create a better and more immersive experience for fans of every sporting code,” Fox Sports Australia CEO Patrick Delany said in a statement.

“By harnessing the power of augmented reality, we are offering viewers a new and different way to experience our products, which adds to the narrative being played out on TV. This clever and compact app will not only allow viewers to see the progress of the top ten, in real time, but through AR, Mount Panorama, with all of its unique steeps, elevation changes, straights and corners, will be accessible to Supercars fans for the first time.”

The augmented reality features for the second-screen experience can be launched by scanning a map of Mount Panorama that can be found on Facebook, Instagram, newspapers, or printouts.

Further, fans can get 360-degree views of drivers to get a real look into the cars as the race is happening.
