For the second year in a row, DSM Engineering Plastics held its “Sports Innovations Contest,” featuring the use of Arnitel Eco, which is a type of unique material made from renewable resources.
The goal of the contest is to change and improve the way in which athletes perform. DSM Engineering aims to give athletes, both amateur and professional, an innovative way to become stronger and better at their sport. Other factors that play into the contest was the uniqueness of the use of Arnitel Eco, and the virality of the product.
This year’s winner is an exercise suit designed by Geoff McCue. The suit targets key resistance areas around the body, and reinforces and supports them using the Arnitel Eco material. While exercising, targeted parts of the body are made stronger by the opposition and flexibility of the material. The targeted areas include the shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, and ankles.
For his winning design, McCue was awarded a trip to the 2012 London Olympic games. Other finalists included a weather and sweat-resistant golf glove, and an airless soccer ball.
