Delaware North, Miomni Gaming Partner to Create Mobile Sportsbook

Hospitality company Delaware North has chosen Miomni Gaming to power its mobile sports betting platform in the U.S., beginning with the firm’s two West Virginia casinos. The partners then plan to offer a turnkey mobile betting solution to other gaming providers.

Miomni Gaming is a British company that already powers mobile sports books for more than a half-dozen Las Vegas casinos such as Caesars, Westgate, and Wynn, as well as Paddypower in the U.K. and Ireland. Mobile betting is now legal in West Virginia, but no provider has launched a service so far. Miomni will help create both Delaware North’s retail and mobile sportsbooks in the state. The first two physical locations will be the Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack and Mardi Gras Casino & Resort near Charleston. Delaware North also runs casinos in Arizona, New York, Illinois, Ohio, and Arkansas.

Brian Hansberry, president of Delaware North’s gaming business, hailed Miomni as “a recognized expert firm on the technology side” in a news release.

“We are proud and excited to be working in partnership with Delaware North,” said Miomni CEO Mike Venner in the release. “Miomni is the chosen technology provider behind many of Nevada’s leading online sportsbooks because we designed the platform to be flexible, easy to use and reliable, with innovative features designed specifically to engage and entertain U.S. sports fans. This partnership is the perfect fit from our perspective as we share a vision of delivering a world-class gaming experience.”

The app built by Miomni includes live video streaming for in-play bets. The company also has built non-gaming sports video apps for a few English Premier League clubs, such as Arsenal, Everton, and Tottenham Hotspur.

Delaware North’s broader hospitality business spans global food and retail services, including those at about 60 sports and entertainment venues. The company also owns and operates the TD Garden in Boston, home of the NBA’s Celtics and NHL’s Bruins. (Delaware North chairman Jeremy Jacobs is the owner of the Bruins.)

Few states currently permit mobile sports betting, but experts agree that the industry inevitably will move in that direction. While startup American tech companies will surely arise to meet the growing demands in the U.S., the early entrants will be predominantly European imports with a tried and tested betting product, such as Miomni Gaming.
