New Activation Aimed to Enhance Fan Engagement

IRVING, Texas – The College Football Playoff (CFP) today announced a variety of social and digital initiatives surrounding the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship.

Emoji Keyboard
Following the announcement of the Playoff Semifinal teams on December 4, the CFP worked with YourMoji to launch a CFP emoji keyboard, featuring over 60 emojis that fans can use across various messaging and social media platforms. Available through the YourMoji app, the free keyboard is available to Apple and Android users.

Custom Hashtag Generated Emojis
For the second year, the CFP worked with Twitter to create a lineup of custom hashtag generated Twitter emojis, including team-specific content for participants in the Playoff Semifinals. Following the Playoff Semifinals on December 31, Twitter will launch a custom emoji for the CFP trophy, which fans will be able to generate by using the hashtag #nationalchampionship.

CFP Gameday
In 2017, the CFP will continue to use a variety of technology and activations accessible to fans at the location of the national championship game. Launched in 2014, CFP Gameday serves as the go-to source for information on fan events and the national championship game. In 2015, the CFP, in conjunction with SportsLabs, introduced iBeacon and geofencing technology as an added feature to the free mobile app. With this technology, fans receive specific messaging based on their location. This messaging serves to elevate the user’s experience while providing important information and updates. Fans are encouraged to download CFP Gameday, available in the App Store and via Google Play.

New for the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship, the CFP Gameday app will also feature CFP Experiences. Through CFP Experiences, fans can purchase exclusive experiences from their iPhone or Android device. Available experiences include front row access at AT&T Playoff Playlist Live!, artist meet and greets, and a game day press box and field tour. Proceeds from all sales benefit the CFP Foundation and Extra Yard for Teachers.

CFP Augmented Reality (AR) Trophy Experience
The CFP Augmented Reality (AR) Trophy Experience puts the trophy in the hands of fans across the country by using cutting edge technology allowing fans to interact and snap photos with the trophy, share images on media, and journey through past playoff highlights. During the regular season, fans across the country at 150+ locations were able to access the experience. Launched in September, the trophy experience continues to enhance the fan engagement by allowing people to be a part of the playoff in a unique way at the Playoff Semifinals and the national championship game. “CFP Trophy AR” is a free download for Apple and Android users.

CFP Social Passport: Tampa Bay
New for 2017, the CFP is excited to introduce the CFP Social Passport: Tampa Bay mobile app. The CFP collaborated with Thuzi and the Tampa Bay Sports Commission (TBSC) to create a first of its kind social fan experience. Fans using the CFP Social Passport app in Tampa Bay will receive immediate benefits including a collectible CFP wristband, exclusive access to offers throughout the city and the ability to redeem Championship Rewards points for prizes including lapel pins, hats, shirts, footballs and more. Participating fans will also have a chance to win national championship game tickets. Fans can start earning Championship Rewards beginning Tuesday, December 27, by downloading the free app and leveraging their own social networks to share the fun and start collecting points.
