As the NFL will be celebrating their 50th Super Bowl this upcoming season, advertisers and fans are also celebrating because of CBS’ plan to live-stream Super Bowl ads. Whether fans are watching it for the game or just watching for the famous commercials, there is no doubt that the Super Bowl is just not the same without the ads.

CBS is taking steps to make sure online viewers get the chance to see the same ads running on TV. In previous years, online viewers did not see many of the ads shown on TV and they saw the same ad multiple times.

Live-stream Super Bowl commercials will change the game for advertising. Now businesses will have to consider online impressions as well as TV ratings. And of course if advertisers are reaching out to more consumers with the live-streaming, it will not come cheap. Leslie Moonves, CEO of CBS, said for a 30-second Super Bowl spot, the network is pricing it “north of $5 million”.

Each year that the Super Bowl has been available for live-streaming, the number of online viewers has grown. The decision shows that CBS and the NFL are adapting to how viewers watch the Super Bowl. The Internet and streaming live events has changed the way we consume TV and this news from CBS is just another example of how quickly the digital age is taking over.
