You might know Houston-based SnapStream, Inc. from television programs like Comedy Central’s The Daily Show or The Colbert Report, of late. The company is responsible for the wide variety of TV clips the two shows aired, and the range of footage their staff was able to process.
Now, SnapStream has entered the realm of sports, capturing two major clients in ESPN and the Jacksonville Jaguars, thanks in part to SnapStream’s new social media emphasis, according to The Houston Business Journal’s Joe Martin. In the past, SnapStream’s capabilities were restricted to recording television, searching it and then clipping it from there.

Recently, SnapStream has made a platform that makes it easier than ever to instantly upload clips to social media. An organization can instantly share GIFs, images or clips from any television station, which is quite a bit easier than a sports team’s media department uploading game footage the following day.
This deal comes in the wake of a push for sports organizations to put more online content on social media. The NFL and Twitter sparked an agreement this summer that saw the NFL look to put more video content on that social media site. ESPN and the Jaguars are following in the footsteps of the Chicago Bulls, the Chicago Blackhawks and number of collegiate athletic departments.
The teams will be hoping that the hefty price of the service, including a 30TB DVR, which is an entry level $10,000, will be worth its weight in capturing the attention of fans. So far, the Jaguars have recorded a consistent 700 to 800 combined retweets and favorites on the in-game GIFs and clips that they upload to Twitter.
