NEW YORK (Dec. 19, 2017)—Boingo Wireless (NASDAQ: WIFI), a leading cellular DAS, small cell and Wi-Fi provider for sports and entertainment venues, recently hosted NCAA President Mark Emmert at the 2017 Sports Business Radio Road Show, an event series that connects university students with key decision makers from the world of sports. Boingo and Emmert sat down with students from Columbia University, Marist University and Montclair State University at The Players’ Tribune in New York City to discuss how technology is disrupting the NCAA, while highlighting vast career opportunities in the sports tech vertical.

“I can’t think of a domain inside college sports that isn’t being disrupted [by technology] in really interesting ways,” said Emmert. “[Technology] is an incredible opportunity … three to five years from now the world is going to look very very different.”

Emmert specifically highlighted the impact digital technologies are having on fan engagement, athlete performance and data and analytics. He also shared insight on topics such as student athlete transfer rules, the state of women’s athletics and college sport revenue generation.

Doug Lodder, senior vice president of business development at Boingo, the title sponsor of the Road Show, reviewed the importance of wireless networks at college stadiums to keep fans connected.

“Technology is the driver of innovation. From digital tickets and digital ordering to digital concessions, the fan experience is now dependent on your mobile device. That’s why Boingo is focused on building robust wireless networks that create a better connected experience on game day.”

The entire Road Show discussion was recorded for Sports Business Radio, an award-winning podcast that is hosted by Brian Berger and has featured guests that include Dallas Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban, former NBA Commissioner David Stern and Los Angeles Lakers President and Co-owner Jeanie Buss, among others.
