The global sports landscape is massive. Major sports media companies are faced with the task to try and cover as much of it as they can. Recently, Bleacher Report, a digital-based company that provides sports news, and Snapchat, the popular photo app that produces images and short video clips, have partnered to cover the international sports world in a unique new way.
Bleacher Report and Snapchat plan to give Snapchat users in the United Kingdom, Canada, Europe, South America, Africa, and Asia daily content. 10-second teaser video will be available; and if users wish to continue with that content, then Swiping up on the app will play a longer form piece of content crafted by the editorial team at Bleacher Report.
International audiences have been targeted in recent years, with the NFL increasing the number of games played in London, and the NBA playing games in London and Mexico City. This new partnership exemplifies the necessity of easy access sporting news on a worldwide stage.
“We’re looking forward to leveraging this new Snapchat feature as we continue to rapidly grow our global audience,” said Dorth Raphaely, General Manager of Bleacher Report.
Sports outlets are looking for expansion; and Bleacher Report is determined to build their international foundation in preparation for it. Without fans, sports franchises would cease to exist. Naturally, large revenue-based companies, like the NBA and NFL, would love to expand to get more fans involved. As of 2012, Bleacher Report opened a newsroom in London and recently opened a U.K.-based sales office, which will manage the advertising opportunities for the publisher’s Snapchat Discover content, according to Bleacher Report.
“This new Discover platform is a great opportunity to expand the reach of Bleacher Report content with fans around the globe,” said Raphaely.
