Canadian tech startup, Onyx Motion Inc. has launched a crowdfunding campaign to release The Swish App, the world’s first digital basketball coaching app for smart watches. The founder Marisa Wu, an engineering student at the University of Toronto, created this smart tech with motion sensors so that basketball players could analyze their technique on their own.

Swish will also provide the user with tips on how to alter and improve their basketball skills as well. In order to appeal to high caliber players, Swish has collaborated with Ben Gordon, an NBA athlete and the current Director of Innovation for Swish.

“Here at Onyx Motion, we are building the next generation of AI for sports coaching. Swish allows mobile devices to break into physical interaction to a point where it can tell you what to do to get better. Our goal was to create a health and fitness device that would give personal recommendations, not just churn out numbers.” Adds CEO of Swish Technology Marisa Wu.

The Toronto based basketball coaching app will collect play-by-play data for the user, and in turn will recommend applicable tips that are derived straight from the minds of pro basketball players. To ensure that the data is 100 percent accurate Swish’s mechanics will utilize the proprietary algorithm to infer the users the mechanics of the user’s entire body including jump timing, specific angles, and consistency.

Ben Gordon, NBA Athlete and Swish’s Director of Innovations shares, “The Swish technology is bringing users closer to their favorite basketball player by giving them the opportunity to learn from them, I’m excited to work with the team on the further development of this one-of-a-kind experience and help players at any level improve their game.”

The Swish app is the first step of Onyx Motion’s expansion, due to the fact that they are looking to provide kinesthetic learning across other sports too. By August 8, 2015 Onyx is looking to raise $10,000 on their Indiegogo campaign in order to fund the launch of both an Android and IOS compatible app. If a customer purchases a package deal before the end of the app’s promotion they will receive a training session with Swish’s cover athlete, Ben Gordon.
