Atlanta Hawks And Emory Healthcare Launch State-Of-The-Art Sports Training Complex

After initially announcing their collaborative efforts earlier this year, the Atlanta Hawks and Emory Healthcare have grown much closer in their goal to launch their first-of-its-kind athletic training and sports facilities. The two innovative organizations formed a strategic partnership to create a 90,000-square-foot complex, integrating four facilities on its five-acre campus. This is where the Hawks will conduct basketball practice, conditioning, training, and other basketball operations.

The Emory Sports Medicine Complex is located on Executive Park Drive and the new Hawks Lane. This NBA stadium will be the first to be co-located with an entire sports medicine center, allowing people to have access to Emory Healthcare’s expert services and advanced technology.

“This partnership demonstrates the visionary fortitude by both organizations to create an unprecedented level of medical integration using an innovative approach to providing quality and cutting edge medical care, diagnostics rehabilitation, training, and performance improvement,” remarked Scott D. Boden, MD, director of the Emory Orthopaedics & Spine Center. “This facility will serve as a regional sports medicine resource that is available to all of our athletes, including professional, Olympic, collegiate, and the weekend warrior, while promoting fitness, good nutrition, and injury prevention through science and research.”

This complex provides a unique intersection of sports medicine, applied sports science and performance training. Through the use of analytics, world-class physicians, and leading-edge technology, these new facilities will provide enhanced performance through improved training and the treatment and prevention of injuries related to sports and exercise with rehabilitation.

The sports-medicine division will give the Hawks immediate access to Emory’s world-class physicians. Additionally, they will have access to the most advanced technology in rehabilitative treatment and sports performance training, including the 3 Tesla MRI scanner, diagnostic imaging technology, and 3-D motion capture analysis.

The Peak Performance Project (or P3) aims to be a world-leader in applied sports science. Based in Santa Barbara, P3 services elite-level athletes all over the world, integrating sports science to assess athlete movement and performance. This gives the best information to prescribe individualized optimal plans to athletes.

This project is much like the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury and IASIS Healthcare collaboration to build a healthcare clinic in the heart of downtown Phoenix, Arizona. Their facilities, however, focus more on the clinical aspects of their community center, giving people the opportunity to take advantage of the many practitioners and healthcare services IASIS has to offer. Essentially, both the Emory Sports Medicine Complex and IASIS facilitate an environment where more fans will enjoy going out to experience advanced venues, reaching their beloved consumers in a meaningful way.

“Emory Healthcare Courts will accomplish one of our top priorities of improving facilities that are integral in developing a winning team, attracting and retaining top player talent, and being a top basketball franchise,” commented Tony Ressler, Principal Owner. “In partnering with Emory Healthcare, we are proud to support a local institution that will be responsible for providing among the most advanced sports medicine care to both our players and the greater Atlanta community.”

The Emory Sports Medicine Complex is scheduled to be completed right before the 2017-18 season commences. The Hawks will provide more details about the venue, including additional renderings and design plans, at a later date.

Ultimately, this new partnership and campus can certainly attract athletic talent to live, work, and train at their most optimal levels in Atlanta.
