Fishing can be a pretty tricky sport. There are so many things to consider when you’re out on the water (or on shore): the weather, the tides, what equipment to use, where to go, etc. Well now something new could make all of that just a little bit easier.
Introducing the ANGLR Tracker, the first technology platform for the fishing industry that includes the world’s first rod-mounted fishing trip tracking device.
How it works is first you would need to download the free ANGLR mobile app and then connect it to the ANGLR Tracker, which will be hooked up to your rod. Fishmode, the tracking platform, will then auto-record each and every trip through GPS and log the use of your terminal tackle. In the meantime, the ANGLR Tracker will be detecting each cast, catch, and drop pin from the fishing rod.

So how exactly does it read all of this information?
The ANGLR Tracker uses sensors and machine learning techniques to automatically read and record each trip the fisherman makes. As for the casts, reels and catches, the technology calculates those through proprietary algorithms. The data is then immediately sent via BlueTooth LE to the app. The battery is also rechargeable with over 24-hour lifespan so those long trips will never be an issue.
The ANGLR app will also include:
• Customizable virtual tackle box with insights on top producing tackle based on locations you fish.
• Real-time weather and water data auto-logged with catches, pins, and other fishing activities.
• Advanced trip statistics to compare and share every fishing experience from beginning to end.
“Connected technology has proven itself as a powerful way to increase satisfaction and engagement in activities. The Sport fishing economy is 3X the size of golf and tennis combined in the United States and we have a huge opportunity to leverage our technology to increase participation and enjoyment in the sport of fishing and the data collected can benefit our fisheries to sustain the sport for future generations,” said ANGLR Tracker co-founder Nic Wilson.
The platform has been revealed and showcased this week at this years I-CAST (International Convention of Allied Sports Fishing Trade Show) in Orlando, Florida at booth 2241. The ANGLR Beta is currently available on Google Play with the iOS version to be launched in September. The Tracker will be released in November.
