Do you want the experience of skydiving without ever jumping out of a plane? Look no further than virtual reality and sensory immersion coming together with iFLY, an indoor skydiving company. iFLY has teamed up with T3, a creative branding agency, to use virtual reality and indoor skydiving to create the feeling of skydiving without ever leaving the building.
To test if the VR experience would change indoor skydiving, the companies put VR headgear on World Champion Skydiver Chris Dixon and gave him a chance to indoor skydive with it. The virtual reality allows users to virtually skydive, base jump or test what flying in a wing suit is like. The users can also choose their landscape, whether that means base jump off a cliff to a lake or skydiving into a city.
They found that adding virtual reality to the already exhilarating experience of indoor skydiving vastly improved the experience. This adds an entirely new way for people to experience iFLY and skydiving, especially those who have maybe never gotten to go sky diving because of monetary or health restrictions.
This experience joins many virtual reality implementations that have been debuting the last few years in sports. Recently, athletes have been using it to train and broadcasters are attempting to use VR as the new way to watch games. Where do you see it going next?
