Last night was not only the kickoff of college football season, but also of the new DC Sports Tech Meetup group. More than 50 people attended the Meetup that had a mix and mingle format. There were a variety of attendees, from entrepreneurs and developers, to media members and those in education.
“I truly enjoyed meeting the founding members of the group,” said co-founder Paul Murphy. “The diversity in skills and backgrounds was matched only by their passion for all things sport-tech. I’m excited to learn more about how these innovators are changing the world of sports.”
A special thanks goes out to the sponsors
- LeagueApps – for providing the food and drinks.
- Chief, Levick, 3Advance – for providing the fantastic venue and hosting
We got the opportunity to present last night about our #NFLTechSeries, in which we interviewed each NFL team about their tech initiatives for the season. For those who missed the event, we explained some of the trends we have noticed from our interviews. These trends include:
- Increasing the DAS and Wifi capacity within stadiums
- Introducing stadium and field video angles and instant replays, as well as incorporating NFL Redzone in the team apps
- Video Board improvements in size and activity
- The usage of Catapult Sports GPS devices to measure player performance and using analytic data
- The emergence of Digital Ticketing
- Opportunities for StartUps to capitalize on
Please follow along SportTechie and the #NFLTechSeries for more information about these trends from each team. Furthermore, join the DC Sport Tech MeetUp and follow on Twitter for news and more events on the horizon. We look forward to bringing you a SportTechie round-up at each event and we hope that you enjoy the information. As a matter of fact, any and all feedback would be much appreciated for future events.
