Munster centre Chris Farrell has been ruled out for the rest of the season after sustaining an ACL injury while training with Ireland on Tuesday.
Following further consultation with the specialist it has been confirmed that Farrell will take no further part in this season’s campaign.
The Irish international, who was named man of the match on his Six Nations debut against Wales, will undergo surgery before commencing his rehabilitation.
Leinster centre Garry Ringrose is the likeliest candidate to replace Farrell.
"Chris Farrell received treatment on the field earlier today after twisting his knee in the turf," said the Irish Rugby Football Union in a statement.
"He subsequently jogged on to rejoin the rest of the playing group and felt well.
"He was sent for a precautionary scan this afternoon, which indicated some ligament damage had occurred and he will now see a specialist. Chris is unlikely to be available for the remainder of the Six Nations."
