Rugby Union Today: Six Nations previews

Another busy day in the rugby union game as we look forward to the upcoming weekend of Six Nations action.

What’s on the site

Like rounds one and two, there are previews of all the Six Nations clashes, with France-Italy kicking off proceedings on Friday night before Ireland and Scotland go head-to-head against Wales and England respectively on Saturday.

A big weekend of Super Rugby also began with the Highlanders edging out the Blues and the Rebels thrashing the Reds at AAMI Park.

What’s in the news

Most of the focus has been on the Six Nations and Johnny Sexton is a late injury concern for Ireland after not featuring in some of the captain’s run.

In club matters, the fallout from Gaby Lovobalavu’s controversial four-week ban has continued with Wasps’ director of rugby Dai Young issuing a statement condemning the suspension.

What’s on social media

Despite referee Brendon Pickerill correctly applying the letter of the law in the Rebels-Reds match earlier, Scott Higginbotham’s red card still caused plenty of debate online.

What’s on TV

The Six Nations returns this weekend with the BBC showing the France-Italy and Scotland-England contests, while ITV has Ireland against Wales.

There’s a full round of Super Rugby fixtures and Sky Sports will broadcast all seven matches. They also have the women’s Six Nations clash between Scotland and England, as well as the Munster-Glasgow PRO14 game and two Top 14 encounters.

On BT Sport, the Aviva Premiership continues with them televising London Irish v Worcester and Saracens v Leicester.
