Racing 92 broke Toulon's proud home record with a 40-29 victory at Stade Felix Mayol in Top 14 action on Sunday.
Brice Dulin gave the visitors the lead when he dotted down with 16 minutes gone on the clock. Pat Lambie converted for a 7-0 lead.
A Lambie penalty extended the lead to 10-0 but Toulon hit back with two tries late in the second half from Malakai Fekitoa and JP Pietersen to take a 14-10 lead in to the interval.
Lambie's 43rd minute penalty brought Racing within one point of the opposition at 14-13.
Toulon then scored a wonderful counter-attacking try after a loose pass from Racing scrum-half Teddy Iribaren was gobbled up by Fekitoa who went on a scintillating weaving run before getting the offload off to Semi Radradra who slipped the pass on his inside to Chris Ashton who had the simple task of dotting down. Jonathan Wisniewski added the extras to take the hosts into a 21-13 lead.
The next try also came from an errant Racing pass. As Toulon recovered the ball, Ma'a Nonu sent a hopeful grubber kick through which Pietersen ran on to collect and score.
But then against the run of play Marc Andreu pounced on a loose Wisniewski pass to run coast to coast for a wonderfully opportunistic intercept try. Lambie's conversion levelled the scores with twenty minutes to go.
Soon after, the visitors grabbed the lead in dramatic fashion after Dulin made the break, switched the ball to Albert Vulivuli. From the next ruck, Lambie went out wide to the right where Yannick Nyanga was ready and waiting to complete the simplest of finishes in the right-hand corner.
Substitute fly-half Luis Carbonel cut the deficit to four points with a penalty for the hosts.
Louis Dupichot put the game beyond doubt when he scored Racing's fourth just before the final whistle.
