Preview: Champions Cup, Saturday

Round 3 of the Champions Cup continues on Saturday with five games scheduled, including Munster facing Leicester at Thomond Park.

Scarlets vs Benetton Rugby

Scarlets can call upon 10 of their returning internationals for Saturday's Champions Cup clash against Benetton Rugby at Parc y Scarlets.

Ken Owens returns to captain his side as the Scarlets take on the Italians in the third round of the competition.

Leigh Halfpenny, Hadleigh Parkes, Steff Evans, Rhys Patchell, Gareth Davies, Wyn Jones, John Barclay, Rob Evans, Aled Davies and Owens all make a return following their respective Autumn Internationals.

Australian second-row Steven Cummins will make his home debut having played his first regional game in last weekend's PRO14 game.

Looking ahead to the game head coach Wayne Pivac said; "If we're good enough to win both games technically three teams could be first-equal after these two weekends. What we can control is the game this weekend.

"The biggest challenge for us will be integrating everyone back in and starting well giving ourselves the best chance of scoring four tries. If we can do that we'll be very pleased.

"We also understand that Benetton are a better side than they have been in recent years. We played them a few weeks ago and having played them only a few weeks ago in the league, we know that they're a tough nut to crack, and they crossed the line on two occasions that night.

"We know it's not going to be a walk in the park. We will be targeting five points, we know that will be a challenge, but we will be trying to maximise as much as we can over the next two weeks."

Meanwhile, Benetton name a strong XV as they look to pick up a first win in this season's competition in what would be a shock result.

Included in the side is full-back Jayden Hayward while Alberto Sgarbi and Tommaso Benvenuti form a strong midfield outside fly-half Tommy Allan.

Northampton vs Ospreys

Jim Mallinder has made eight changes to Northampton Saints' starting line-up for this weekend’s home clash against Ospreys.

Saints welcome the Welsh region to Franklin’s Gardens having won the last six meetings between the sides, the most recent being a 36-6 triumph back in 2014.

Ahsee Tuala – who signed a new two-year Saints contract this week – is the only change to the back three, with the Samoan international joining full-back Harry Mallinder and Ben Foden.

Luther Burrell returns to the midfield to partner Rob Horne, with Piers Francis and Nic Groom forming a new-look half-back partnership.

Meanwhile there are also two changes in the engine room as both David Ribbans and Christian Day return from injury, with Courtney Lawes shifting to blindside flanker.

Alex Waller misses out through injury in the front row, so Francois van Wyk comes in with Dylan Hartley continuing to skipper the side from hooker.

Munster vs Leicester

Munster head coach Johann van Graan has named his first Champions Cup matchday squad with returning internationals Peter O’Mahony, CJ Stander, Dave Kilcoyne, Conor Murray and Andrew Conway all included for Saturday’s clash with Leicester.

The returning international contingent are four of five changes to the side that defeated Ospreys in Irish Independent Park last weekend.
