Scarlets coach Wayne Pivac says his side need to learn from last week’s mistakes when they welcome Edinburgh Parc y Scarlets on Saturday.
Scarlets return to the Parc for the first time since round one this Saturday following mixed fortunes on the road in the PRO14; a solid victory over Zebre and a close defeat to Ulster last weekend.
Commenting on the defeat to Ulster head coach Wayne Pivac said; “In the first half in particular we lacked patience and we were trying to score every time we had the ball. We put ourselves under immense pressure; we had to do a lot of defending in that first half. We were lucky on the night that our defence stood strong and that kept us in the game.”
Despite the defeat on the weekend, away from home at Kingspan Stadium, the region’s head coach has stressed that it doesn’t influence the style of play going forward and the running rugby philosophy continues;
“We’re not going to change the way we play, it’s just making the right decisions and knowing when it’s on and when it’s not. It’s not a panic situation, it’s just being a little bit smarter in certain situations in the game.”
Edinburgh also suffered defeat last weekend to Benetton: “I think you’re going to see a tighter competition, particularly in our pool. I don’t think there are going to be any easy games in our pool.
“We need to rectify the errors that we made and do that quickly, and the boys know that. In the review process the good thing is that the players identified themselves what went wrong. We all want to get it right, no one likes losing and we don’t want a loss to kick us into action. They’re fine margins at times, we just have to learn from the mistakes and make sure that we get it right for the weekend and in particular if we’re in a tight game put teams away at the death.
“There’s a big period of rugby coming up as we lead into Europe and that starts with Edinburgh.”
