O’Connor sings Ford praises

Leicester Tigers head coach Matt O'Connor has hailed the performance of George Ford in the wake of his side's 30-13 victory over Newcastle Falcons on Saturday.

Ford, Ben Youngs and Telusa Veainu all played exceptionally with well with the latter pairing getting tries to their name along with Jonny May as the Tigers condemned the Falcons to their second successive defeat. However, O'Connor has singled out his star playmaker fly-half Ford for praise, who scored 15 points, all from the boot.

O’Connor said: “I thought we were really professional the way we approached it. The first-half performance into the wind was probably the difference.

“I thought we managed the game, took our chances and got scoreboard pressure and that was going to be important.

“George Ford has a lot of growth in him. He is a fantastic footballer who works hard on his game.

“He brings others into the game beautifully. I think he is playing really well, kicking his goals, managing the game and tackling well. You put Matt Toomua and Manu Tuilagi next to him a I think he is going to be a significantly better player.”

Ford has had an impressive season and is the Premiership's second top points-scorer with 77, five behind first-placed Marcus Smith of Harlequins.
