Northampton: ‘Picamoles going nowhere’

Northampton Saints boss Jim Mallinder has insisted that star number eight Louis Picamoles will not be leaving the club.

The France number eight arrived in the Premiership this season and has made a major impact at Franklin's Gardens.

Speculation this week linked Picamoles with a return to France and to Montpellier, possibly on a central contract with the FFR which would be the first of its kind.

Mallinder however was clear that Picamoles' contract had no get-out clause, meaning he would not be leaving the club.

"Louis Picamoles is like all players who are not leaving," Mallinder told the Northampton Chronicle and Echo.

"He signed a contract, a three-year contract, he's just done the first year of it and he's got no get-out clause. There's no reason why Louis should be anywhere else.

"I don't think we've ever been a selling club.

"We've always wanted to go into the market and bring good players here to Northampton. I'm sure that's the way we'll be. We want to keep all of our good players at Northampton Saints."

Mallinder also heaped praise on Picamoles after another sensational performance, helping to set up Alex Waller's try, as Northampton defeated Harlequins 22-20 but missed on a Champions Cup place due to their head-to-head record having been tied on points with Quins.

"He was immense and you need all of your good players playing. Competition is tough now and we need all of the best players we can possible get."
