McCall pleased with performance against Wasps

Saracens coach Mark McCall has praised his side's defence after their impressive 30-14 win over Wasps on Sunday.

Saracens went top of the Premiership standings with their bonus-point victory at Allianz Park which also brought and end to Wasps unbeaten run.

"I thought we put them under a lot of pressure, put them into lots of difficult situations," McCall said.

"[But we] didn’t always capatalise on the pressure we put them under, especially in the first half. I think we couldn’t sustain pressure in that first half because of our discipline. I think we gave away 10, 11 penalties in the first half which were pretty soft penalties in general… so it was a bit frustrating but I thought the players didn’t get frustrated by those things and they kept building the pressure on Wasps and that’s obviously a great result for us, to come away with five points against a quality side."

Overall McCall was pleased with his side’s display: "There’s quite a large part of our game which is in quite good shape. I thought our defence has been good all season to be honest," he said.

"I think we’ve conceded four tries in six games, which is a good record, and we controlled them for 35 minutes defensively but you make one mistake against them, which we did, and they score a try."

"Our set piece is also in good shape but our attack needs to get a bit better, there were some signs of that in the second half, but if we can put that together with the rest of our game that’ll be encouraging."
