Maximums for Munster, Glasgow and Scarlets

There were wins for Munster, Glasgow and Scarlets in the PRO14 on Sunday, with all three of those also claiming bonus points.

Zebre 19-36 Munster

Alex Wootton’s second-half brace helped Munster maintain their play-off push following a comfortable 36-19 triumph over Zebre.

The Irish province dominated the opening half-hour and, after JJ Hanrahan had kicked an early penalty, Rory Scannell scampered across the whitewash.

James Hart then touched down to increase their lead to 17-0 before a yellow card for Robin Copeland saw the momentum swing in the hosts’ favour.

Two quick-fire tries by Giulio Bisegni and Jacopo Sarto – the second after the visitors had been reduced to 13 men following Sam Arnold’s yellow – put the game in the balance.

However, Munster regained their composure and sealed the victory via Wootton’s double and Calvin Nash's score, despite Giovanbattista Venditti getting over for a consolation.

Ospreys 6-47 Glasgow Warriors

The Glasgow Warriors juggernaut shows no sign of abating after another thoroughly impressive performance saw them thrash the Ospreys 47-6 for their ninth successive PRO14 triumph.

In what has been an outstanding weekend for Scottish rugby, following the exploits of the national side yesterday, Dave Rennie’s men continued the feel-good factor.

Despite Sam Davies opening the scoring for the Conference A’s bottom placed side, Adam Hastings hit back for the league leaders.

George Horne then scampered over for the Warriors as they increased their advantage to 11 points before Davies’ second three-pointer kept the hosts in the contest at the interval.

However, the Ospreys had little answer to Glasgow’s excellence after the break as quick-fire Scott Cummings and George Turner tries completed the bonus-point.

Horne, Brandon Thomson and Leonardo Sarto then rubber stamped an emphatic victory as the Welsh region’s atrocious season continued.

Southern Kings 30-34 Scarlets

Dan Jones’ late try proved crucial as the Scarlets held off a spirited Southern Kings side to secure their eighth league victory of the campaign following a 34-30 triumph.

The South African outfit have struggled in their first season in the PRO14, but they were much improved against the high-flying Welsh region.

Wayne Pivac’s men still had enough quality to defeat their opponents but, despite an early converted try for Tadhg Beirne, they were made to work for it.

Michael Makase reduced the arrears for the hosts by touching down and Yaw Penxe then gave the strugglers the lead for the first time in the match, crossing the whitewash after 16 minutes.

Oliver Zono’s two penalties to Jones’ one took the home side 16-10 ahead at the break before they increased that buffer minutes into the second period via Martin du Toit.

Evidently frustrated by their performance, the Scarlets finally hit their stride and successive scores from Ioan Nicholas and Werner Kruger regained their advantage.

Jones’ three-pointer appeared to end the Southern Kings’ resistance but the South African team hit back when Harlon Klaasen pounced on a mistake to score.

However, they could not hold on and the Scarlets’ excellent fly-half snatched the win.

The scorers:

For Kings:
Tries: Makase, Penxe, Du Toit, H Klaasen
