Ulster director of rugby Les Kiss has hailed his side's improvement after they overturned a 17-0 deficit to beat Munster 24-17 at Kingspan Stadium on Monday.
The home side were helped by a Sam Arnold red card and Fineen Wycherley yellow as a Craig Gilroy double and Darren Cave and Rob Lyttle 's scores ensured the comeback and even a bonus-point for Kiss's side.
And the Ulster mentor has revealed his delight at the manner in which his side turned around the match and pointed to an improved performance at the breakdown area as another key factor in the improvement, although he did criticise their first-half performance.
"It was disappointing in the first half, no doubt about it. The setpiece just couldn't get a platform. To have two maul tries and a penalty try certainly shortened us up and we didn't need to say a lot in there [at half-time]," said Kiss post-match.
"They were pretty down in themselves, but we knew if we got the breakdown right, changed the picture there and not give the ref a chance to penalise as much as he did, if we took control of that, [we had a chance].
"I thought our defence was standing up in the first half, away from the set piece. If we looked after the ball a bit more we knew we could do some damage, but it had to take the boys' effort and they put their hands up and I thought they delivered in the second half."
The result takes some of the pressure off that had mounted on Kiss after his side were humbled 44-16 by Connacht last time and his side can now take a bit of confidence in to the upcoming weekend's clash with Leinster.
"There wasn't any rousing [at half-time]," Kiss added.
"We said, 'how do we take control of the next ten minutes, the next 20 minutes?' We just had to look after the ball. It was a fairly simple delivery. And the forwards had to just aim up a little bit more in the set-piece. The backs had to look after the ball when they made their chances because we were breaking on the edges. That's what you get if you put your mind to the job.
"We need to keep on improving week by week. Last week was wrong [losing heavily to Connacht], but we responded.
"Rugby is an 80-minute game. It's like a season, you have to stay in the hunt, keep fighting away and work on the things you're not good at and build on your strengths and that's what we're trying to do."
