Josh Navidi expecting free-flowing Challenge Cup final

Cardiff Blues flanker Josh Navidi believes that the way they and Gloucester approach the game will make for an excellent spectacle in the Challenge Cup final.

The teams will go head-to-head in the showpiece event in Bilbao on Friday with both sides renowned for playing expansively.

It is a repeat of the last-eight encounter from the previous year where the Blues succumbed 46-26, despite going into the interval three points ahead, and Navidi thinks that it will be another high-scoring affair.

“Gloucester like to run the ball, they have a big pack and a strong driving lineout,” he told his region’s website.

“When we played them last year it was a good one for spectators to watch so it should be good on Friday.”

Navidi also insists the loss to the Cherry and Whites in 2017 will not be a factor at the weekend and is adamant they have learned from that game.

He said: “We scored a few tries but after 60 minutes went we started to crumble. It is an 80-minute game so we have to put a performance in from start to finish.

“We have learnt from past mistakes in that game and hopefully we can take it into this one.”

Injury depending, the Wales international will feature for the Blues on Friday and will be crucial to their hopes of lifting the title.

This is the 27-year-old’s first major European final, however, after missing out during the victory over Toulon in 2010.

“I was in my first year when we won the Amlin, I went out and watched it,” he added. “Being there and seeing the weeks progress up to it, from then to now, it is exciting to be involved in it again.

“It’s been a good week and hopefully we can keep going and progressing through the week in the build-up to Friday.

“I am enjoying my rugby this year and it’s been a good year for me. I’ve just kept doing what I have done throughout my career, trying to improve where I can each week and it’s been enjoyable.”
