Jenkins eyeing Wales return

Cardiff Blues loosehead prop Gethin Jenkins is eyeing a return to the Wales setup after an injury-plagued 2017.

Jenkins is the most capped Wales player in history with a total of 129 Test appearances to his name, 21 more than second most-capped Alun Wyn Jones.

He is turning 37 this November but is hungrier than ever to add to that tally. Wales face Australia, Georgia, New Zealand and South Africa in a busy November.

He captained Wales in the 2016 November Tests against Australia, Argentina and South Africa only for injury to halt his momentum in a frustrating 2017 where he is yet to feature for the national side.

Jenkins missed out on the Six Nations with a pectoral injury and the June Tests against Tonga and Samoa after undergoing knee surgery.

The record cap holder will miss the beginning of the PRO14 season, only due back sometime in late September and admits he can barely wait.

"My first port of call is the Blues and I want to get back playing as soon as I can and we will see where it goes from there," Jenkins told BBC.

"If you are in one of the regions you have a chance of playing for your country and that's the ultimate honour.

"I definitely have those (Wales) ambitions.

"I was on a high last autumn after captaining Wales, but injury struck and I missed a few months.

"I worked hard to get back but injury struck again.

"I have been rehabbing all summer and looking to get back third or fourth game of the coming season."
