Hooker Jamie George said it had been a deliberate focus of Saracens to improve their start to games ahead of their semi-final victory over Wasps last weekend.
In the past four games, they scored 149 unanswered second-half points, including 22 tries. As George explained to the Evening Standard: “We’ve been having slow starts, easing our way in. It’s been close at half-time, then we’ve turned it on.”
Their emphasis on this part of the game paid dividends on Saturday with Alex Lozowski (2′) and Vincent Koch (12′) dotting down in the opening quarter.
However one major concern Saracens will want to address is the fact that they missed 20 tackles which allowed their opposition in for five tries.
“There’s a lot to fix up,” added George. “We have a lot of lessons to learn. The coaches are brilliant at that, the way they analyse the game.”
Meanwhile, Billy Vunipola, who was replaced at the interval with a hamstring complaint, is set to be available for the final against Exeter Chiefs this coming Saturday.
