Itoje ready for Clermont noise

Saracens lock Maro Itoje is expecting a cauldron of noise at Murrayfield this Saturday when they face Clermont in the Champions Cup final.

The 22-year-old, who was recently named in the British and Irish Lions squad, is part of a Saracens side looking to retain their trophy.

But the second-row knows that Clermont’s supporters will be vocal and with the French side the only team he has lost to in the Champions Cup for three seasons, he expects a tough evening in Edinburgh, with Saracens looking to become the fourth team to win successive titles.

“Their fans are probably the loudest, most passionate group I’ve come across,” he admitted in a BBC 5 Live interview ahead of Saturday.

“It’s going to be special because Clermont are a top side. We are going to prepare unbelievably well and will leave no stone unturned to make sure we are the best we can be.”

He added: “Big games are always different, there is always an extra edge and everyone is a bit sharper and more switched on during the week. There is more of a build-up, a bit more anxiety in the lead-up to the game.”
