Heinz keeping tabs on Genia

Gloucester scrum-half Willi Heinz is wary of the threat opposite number Will Genia poses ahead of the European Rugby Challenge cup.

Heinz will lead his side out onto the field when they clash with Stade Français at Murrayfield on Friday night.

Heinz, who is of New Zealand origins, knows Genia well having played him against him in Super Rugby when the Wallaby scrum-half was turning out for the Reds.

And he is urging his Gloucester teammates to keep close tabs on Stade Français number nine Genia, whom Heinz believes is one of the best around.

“I have played against Will a few times in Super Rugby,” Heinz told EPC Rugby.

“He is a classy operator, he does all the basics really well and he has an X-Factor about his game.

“Genia has the ability to pick off tired and lazy defenders around the ruck.

“He is a guys that we have spoken about, we will have to do a job defensively to eliminate the impact that he can have on the game.”

If the Cherry and Whites go all the way tonight, Heinz is dedicating the win to head coach Jonny Bell who has been the catalyst in turning around the club’s fortunes since he arrived midway through the season.

He said: “Jonny Bell has been magnificent since he took over. He is hugely passionate and wants to drive this club forward. Since he has taken the reins at the club has just been onto the boys to push this club forwards.

“Now we have the opportunity to play for some silverware and it would great moment for us if we can get over the line for him.”
