England captain Dylan Hartley says their upcoming game against Australia will act as a good indicator of where his side currently are at.
Second meets third in the World Rankings on Saturday and the Wallabies know a win at Twickenham would see them go above rivals England.
But the English have beaten Australia in their most recent four meetings and captain Hartley is looking forward to facing off with them yet again.
“They’re a top side so it’s a real good chance to see where we’re at,” hooker Hartley told England Rugby’s website ahead of the massive fixture.
“It’s a Test match, the boys know we need to be a step up from where we were last week. I thought the attitude and intensity of the guys last week was fantastic.
“Physically we were impressive last week defensively, but we’re going to need that same attitude this week with some more as they’re playing a very direct game and they’ve picked a big team.”
