British and Irish Lions scrum-half Conor Murray is excited about pairing up with Owen Farrell against the Crusaders on Saturday.
Both players start their first match on tour this weekend in Christchurch in a tough clash against a side that has yet to lose this season.
The Lions, following a shock defeat to the Blues, have named a strong starting team and bench for this fixture and when asked about the differences between Farrell and regular Ireland team-mate Jonathan Sexton as a playmaker, Murray revealed they are both similar players.
“Owen is a real leader like Johnny is and they are a real driving force behind our game-plan,” Murray told a press conference in Christchurch.
“I’ve been asked about Johnny a lot in the lead-up to this tour and we obviously understand each other quite well and that’s the challenge now, to get to know Owen a bit more than I did in 2013. To understand him more, understand what he is looking for from me and to just have those little chats. It is basically just spending time together and getting to know each other and that will hopefully help us on the pitch.”
Murray, who is back from a shoulder injury, added on the two number 10s: “In terms of styles I think they’re quite similar; they lead well and have strong kicking games. They’re two quality players and to get the chance to play with Owen (on Saturday) is really exciting for me.”
