Cronk rules out Union move

Rugby league star Cooper Cronk has ended speculation about a possible switch to rugby union by saying he is not interested in the 15-man code.

Wallabies head coach Michael Cheika backed the Melbourne Storm and Kangaroos half-back to make a successful switch to rugby union and even suggested the Waratahs as a possible team for Cronk, who will move to Sydney when his contract with the Storm expires at the end of the current NRL campaign.

But the player poured cold water on those suggestions when asked about a possible code switch.

"That won’t be happening," Cronk told AAP.

"That’s fair to say – categorically.

"Everyone has their right to an opinion but I haven’t had any conversation with rugby union and I have no intention. My intention is to make a decision on if I play again next year, not where I am going to play."

The Waratahs and Australian Rugby Union have denied any interest in the 33-year-old's services and Cronk was bemused that he was linked with a possible move to the Sydneysiders.

"Media have their right to fill some pages but they don’t know the conversations I have had," he added.

"I did play a bit of rugby at school and thoroughly enjoyed it and I watch rugby and played with some of the current Wallabies’ players. But I love rugby league. It has given me everything I have in my life.”
