The Cheetahs have announced that Springbok scrum-half Rudy Paige has committed to a three-month agreement with the PRO14 outfit.
Paige joins the Bloemfontein-based franchise as cover for incumbent scrum-halves Zee Mkhabela and Tian Meyer. The Cheetahs' other scrum-halves, Shaun Venter and Ruan van Rensburg are currently sidelined due to injury.
With the team's other two young scrum-halves, Dian Badenhorst and Revan Kruger involved in Varsity Cup and at South Africa U20 level, Paige’s availability will come at an important stage of the competition with the Cheetahs well-placed to reach the PRO14 play-offs.
The 28-year-old, who has played in 13 Tests for South Africa, was a shock omission from the Bulls' Super Rugby squad earlier this year with the Pretoria-based side's head coach John Mitchell opting for the less experienced trio of André Warner, Embrose Papier and Ivan van Zyl as his scrum-halves.
