Bath director of rugby Todd Blackadder said his side’s performance was ‘really frustrating and disappointing’ in the wake of the single-point defeat to Gloucester on Sunday.
Bath went down 22-21 despite their winger Semesa Rokoduguni scoring tries in each half and Blackadder was left seething by the outcome.
When asked how frustrated he was after the single-point defeat to Gloucester, Todd Blackadder voluntarily offered a score out of ten.
“Out of ten out of ten? I’m probably about a nine,” Blackadder told the Bath Chronicle.
“It was a really frustrating and disappointing performance. Sub-standard from us.
“I never felt at all that we were in the game and then we found ourselves in a position when we probably should have shut it out, but we didn’t.
“From our side, it was just not good enough.”
Bath actually dominated possession in the first half but Blackadder slammed his side for often taking the wrong option on attack.
“We had the ball in our 22 and we kicked it out,” he said.
“It wasn’t so much that, it was that we gave a penalty away, then we gave another penalty away.
“We allowed them to build pressure. We’ve got to be better than that.
“That’s just silly error on error on error. Schoolboy errors.
“It’s the simple basics we missed today. We didn’t build pressure and we were really indecisive.
“I don’t know how many times we kicked the ball away when something wasn’t on.
“We could have just carried hard, put another phase together and really put them under pressure.
“We’re making a lot of progress in a lot of areas then we put in a performance like that.
“That’s the old Bath. We don’t turn up and do those little things that give us the best opportunity to win games.
“I know we’re better than that.”
