Beale, Hodge Wallabies doubts

Wasps utility back Kurtley Beale and Rebels centre Reece Hodge are doubtful for the Wallabies' June internationals.

Beale came off injured in Wasps' dramatic 21-20 Premiership semi-final win over Leicester clutching his hamstring while Hodge was taken off the field on a medicab in the Rebels' 50-23 Super Rugby defeat to the Waratahs with concussion.

Both players were expected to be named in Michael Cheika's 31-man squad for the Tests against Scotland, Fiji and Italy.

Wasps coach Dai Young is sweating over the fitness of star back Beale ahead of the Premiership final against Exeter at Twickenham on Saturday.

"It doesn't look like it's disastrous but it is a tight turnaround," Young told BBC.

"We're hoping he's going to be right for next week because it'd be fitting for Kurtley to run out at Twickenham."

It would be Beale's last game for the London side as he has been told by the Aussie selectors that he needs to return to the country if he wants to be in contention for Japan 2019 Rugby World Cup selection.

Meanwhile, Rebels coach Tony McGahan is fairly confident that Hodge's condition is not too serious.

"I don't have a full update but I spoke to him at halftime and he seemed well aware of where he was and what he was doing," Rebels coach Tony McGahan told Fox Sports Australia.

"It's not a great knock to take early on, but he seemed in good spirits and we'll see where that goes."
