Bath front-row duo re-sign

Bath have announced that front-row duo Shaun Knight and Michael van Vuuren have both agreed contract extensions with the Premiership club.

Knight arrived on loan from the Dragons in September, but has now agreed a permanent deal to remain in the West Country until the end of the 2017/18 season. The tighthead prop made over 20 appearances for the Welsh side before crossing the bridge to join the English outfit.

A strong scrummager, the former Gloucester front-rower will now be looking to add to his eight appearances so far in a Bath shirt.

Knight said: “I’m really happy to have extended my stay at the club. It’s been an extremely enjoyable six months and to be a part of a squad that has the potential of challenging for honours is really exciting.

25-year-old van Vuuren arrived at Bath from Leicester Tigers following spells with Stade Français and the Cheetahs and Kings.

The versatile, dynamic hooker was a part of the South Africa U20 team that competed in the 2011 IRB Junior World Championships made his debut for the club in the 22-25 win against Pau in October.

The South African forward, who has signed a two-year deal added: “I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far, so when the opportunity came to stay at the Club I did not hesitate. The environment and culture that is being created at the Club is a special one, and I’m looking forward to being a part of the journey.”

Director of rugby, Todd Blackadder, said: “It’s been a busy month or so with contract renewals, but we’re delighted to have secured a number of players in preparation for next season.

“Shaun and Michael are another two players that we had identified as playing an important role at the club and I have no doubt they will offer a great deal to the squad during their time here.”
