Bath and Northampton book semi-final spots


There were victories for Sale, Dragons, Bath, London Irish and Northampton Saints in Friday's Anglo-Welsh Cup pool games.

Scarlets 18-45 Sale Sharks

Sale brought the curtain down on their Anglo-Welsh Cup campaign with an impressive seven-try 45-18 victory over the Scarlets on Friday.

They led 19-18 at the break but then pulled clear thereafter, despite having Faf de Klerk sent off for a second yellow card on 58 minutes.

Josh Charnley, Rob Webber, Ben Curry, Will Cliff, Arron Reed, Josh Strauss and Curtis Langdon crossed for the visitors in their triumph.

Dragons 33-27 Worcester

Dragons won only their second pool fixture on Friday as they edged out Worcester 33-27 to deny them a place in the knockout stages.

Jarryd Sage, Ashton Hewitt, Zane Kirchner, Sarel Pretorius and Tyler Morgan all scored for the hosts in Wales as they took five points.

Kurt Haupt, Dean Hammond and Tom Howe crossed for Worcester as they suffered a third loss in their four games, ending their hopes.

Ospreys 19-32 Bath

Bath secured a place in the knockout stages of the Anglo-Welsh Cup after defeating the Ospreys 32-19 with a try bonus-point in Swansea.

Bath led by only a point at the turnaround after going in 13-12 in front, but put 19 further points on the board after their half-time team talk.

Levi Douglas and Matt Banahan crossed while their other scores were penalty tries as they left Ospreys rooted to the bottom of their Pool.

Cardiff Blues 21-42 London Irish

London Irish have done all they can in the Anglo-Welsh Cup pool stage after they thumped Cardiff Blues 42-21 in a bonus-point success.

This result leaves the Exiles top of their pool on 12 points but Newcastle and Leicester are breathing down their neck, with their final pool games against Gloucester and Wasps coming on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Alex Lewington, Ofisa Treviranus (2), Arno Botha, Tom Fowlie and Joe Cokanasiga claimed Irish's tries in a confidence-boosting victory.

Northampton Saints 36-10 Harlequins

Northampton Saints wrapped up top spot in their Anglo-Welsh Cup pool after they brushed aside Harlequins 36-10 at Franklin's Gardens.

George North, Tom Stephenson, Ahsee Tuala and a Ken Pisi double saw them to the spoils as they finish the pool stage on 15 points.

Mark Lambert and Joe Marchant scored in defeat for Harlequins who must now wait to see how Exeter fare against Saracens on Saturday.
