Americas Wrap: Round Three

There were Americas Rugby Championship victories for Argentina XV, Uruguay and the USA as they beat Chile, Brazil and Canada respectively over the weekend.

Argentina XV 45-10 Chile

Argentina scored six tries past Chile to claim a 45-10 victory at Talcahuano.

The home side scored first in the clash when fly-half Jorge Castillo slotted a penalty in the opening seven minutes of the game.

Argentina would score moments later though when outside centre Juan Cappiello was given an offload by Lautaro Bazán to nab the first try of the match.

The first-half was a fairly quiet affair as most of the tries came in the second-half when five tries would be scored after the teams came back out of the change rooms, including a double from inside centre Bruno Devoto.

Uruguay 23-12 Brazil

Uruguay were able to breeze past Brazil 23-12 in Uruguay on Saturday.

Brazil started off the scoring when inside centre Moisés Duque slotted a penalty in the first two minutes of the game. Uruguay replied quickly though as second-row Ignacio Dotti would score five minutes later.

It was all Uruguay after that as the home side would score three more tries and keep their defence well structured enough to keep the Brazilians from scoring a single five-pointer the whole game.

Duque’s boot would keep them in the game though as the centre scored four penalties while Brazil’s kickers could only manage one penalty in the 50th minute.

USA 51-34 Canada

USA recorded a 51-34 win over Canada in a try-fest at Swangard Stadium on Saturday.

12 tries were scored in the clash with the USA getting the better of their rivals as they crossed the whitewash seven times.

USA full-back Mike Te’o starred in the game after scoring a hat-trick, one of which was in the first four minutes of the game after some quick hands from the backline which allowed Te’o some space to run with ball in hand.

His second try was one to marvel at when States’ fly-half Will Magie gave a cross kick which was tapped back by winger Nate Augspurger to his full-back to get over the line and score.

It was a record win for the States as they reached new heights in tries and points scored against their Canadian rivals.
