Abendanon pens new Clermont deal

Clermont have announced that former England full-back Nick Abendanon has signed a new two-year contract to stay at the Top 14 club.

Abendanon's new deal will keep him at the Top 14 side until 2020 but he has an option to extend his stay for an extra year. The 31-year-old, who has played in two Tests for his country, joined Clermont from Bath in 2014.

Clermont director of rugby Franck Azéma is delighted with Abendanon's decision to extend his stay at the club.

"This is very good news," Azéma told Clermont's official website.

"The game Nick practices fits perfectly with the idea of Rugby that we do with my staff. After many years of fidelity with Bath, Nick is doing the same thing with us. This proves the character and values of this player but also his well-being, here in Auvergne where he has integrated perfectly.

"Since his arrival, he has taken his place both on the field but also in the locker room where his leadership is growing. For some seasons, he has also shown an interesting versatility by being able to evolve with the same level of performance both on the wing and at the back.

"We are very happy to be able to keep a man and a player of this quality in our workforce for the seasons to come."
