Wimbledon 2016: Kevin Anderson reveals vile online abuse after shock defeat to Denis Istomin

KEVIN ANDERSON hit out on social media having despicably been handed death threats after he lost in the first round at Wimbledon.

The big-serving South African, 30, is his continent’s only player in the world top 50.

But he slumped to a 4-6, 6-7 (13-15), 6-4, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 defeat to Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan on day one at SW19.

And Anderson took to Twitter to voice his frustration at having been targeted on social media, on top of the disappointment at the loss.

He wrote: “Bummed to have lost yesterday, but at least I had a ton of death threats on facebook and twitter to make me feel better about things…

“Thanks to GOOD people out there who stick with me through this tough year.

“My #Wimbledon is done, looking forward to US Hardcourt Season.”

A few of the horrific, expletive-laden tweets suggested Anderson had thrown the match, with many claiming to have lost large sums of money betting on the player.

Anderson reached a career high of No10 in the world last year but this season has seen him plagued by knee and elbow injuries.

The Florida-based player has won just five matches all year.
