Wimbledon 2016: French giant Albano Olivetti serves up warning to Wimbledon rivals ahead of first round

ALBANO OLIVETTI does not only have a massive frame – the French qualifier has a huge serve to match.

Giant Olivetti, who stands an imposing 6ft 8ins and weighs in at over 16 stone, holds the record for the second fastest tennis serve of all time – 160mph.

Australian Sam Groth is the holder of the world’s fastest recorded serve

That’s only just behind the world record 163.7mph served up by Australian Sam Groth in 2012.

And another Aussie Matthew Barton will find himself in the firing line when he plays Olivetti in Tuesday’s first round.

Olivetti is currently ranked 793 in the world and is the lowest-ranked player to reach a Grand Slam main draw after Mark Knowles did it at Wimbledon in 1998 while ranked 1122.

STATS A FACT

Olivetti is is one of the tallest French tennis players ever to compete in a grand slam

Wimbledon 2016 will be his third ever major grand slam

His first ever was Roland Garros in 2013 where he competed in a doubles with Tristan Lamasine and his second was at the US open, where he was eliminated in the first round

The biggest scalp of his career to-date has been American Mardy Fish who was ranked eighth in the world at the time

He has won almost £230,000 in his career

If Olivetti’s Wimbledon campaign proves to be short-lived, he will certainly walk away with a nice stash of cash – first round losers earn £30,000 this year.
