Who is Tyson Fury’s new trainer Ben Davison and which other fighters has he worked with?

THE latest stage of Tyson Fury’s career is being master-minded by his new trainer Ben Davison.

Fury, 29, hasn’t fought since ending Wladimir Klitschko’s decade-long reign as heavyweight champion in 2015.

Now he is on the comeback trail after battled depression and bouts of heavy drinking, and takes on Albanian Sefer Seferi in Manchester.

The controversial Irish ‘Gypsy King’ used to be trained by his uncle Peter Fury.

But he has turned to Davidson, who says their alliance was born from a common strategy of how the Manchester giant would tactically approach bouts with the world’s leading heavyweights.

Here is SunSport’s lowdown on the young trainer:

He made his name as a boxing trainer after teaming up with long-time chum Billie Joe Saunders.

He first met Fury just over a year ago in Marbella in Spain and they had their first conversation in the back of a car.

How highly does Davison rate Fury?

Davison reckons Fury can do absolutely everything in the ring. He says: “He can box front foot southpaw, back-foot southpaw, stand there and have a fight and he can do all those things as an orthodox fighter, too.

“Outside of the ring, the idea people have got about Tyson Fury is 100 per cent unfair. He’s a stand-up man and that’s one of the first things I noticed with him.

“He says what he believes and he sticks to what he believes. He’s a very good man.”

And what does Davison feel about Fury’s attitude towards boxing after being out of the ring for so long?

Well, Fury has shed seven stone for a start.

Elsewhere, Davison told the Metro: “When he’s enjoying his training, he loves it. The actual sport of boxing is something he loves, I’ve never seen before in anybody.

“The business side of boxing can be very ugly, but his love and passion for the sport is like no other.

“I remember before he even threw that first shot on the pads he couldn’t stop smiling. It actually made me laugh. ‘Straight away there and then, I knew the passion and love was still there,’

Finally, how far does Davison think Fury can go?

Davison is in no doubt about this, saying: “He could be a world champion again tomorrow, genuinely.”
