What do Brighton have to do against Wigan to win promotion to the Premier League today?
BRIGHTON are on the verge of promotion to the Premier League following their 2-0 victory at Wolves.
And the Seagulls’ Easter resurrection could be complete on Monday afternoon.
Brighton are primed to win promotion against WiganReuters
After 34 years, the Seagulls are set to soar back into the Premier League if they beat Wigan.
In six seasons at the Amex Stadium, they have made the playoffs three times but gone out of the semi-finals on each occasion.
On Easter Monday however, the demons of previous promotion pushes could be laid to rest.
Here are all the permutations ahead of arguably the biggest day in the Seagulls’ history.
But Anthony Knockaert’s double against Wolves has brought them to the verge of the big timePA:Press AssociationAlthough to be mathematically certain of promotion they must hope Huddersfield slip up at DerbyPA:Press Association
But they did manage to get promoted through the divisions, beginning life at the impressive Amex Stadium in the Championship in 2011.
Will Brighton be promoted if they beat Wigan?
Brighton's promotion technically doesn't depend on their result against the Latics.
If they win, they must wait for Huddersfield's result at Jekyll and Hyde side Derby to see if they have mathematically made it to the Premier League.
But even if the Terriers win at Pride Park, Brighton's goal difference is +36, whereas Huddersfield's is a measly +5, so promotion will be all but guaranteed with a win over Wigan.
Can Brighton get promoted with a draw or a loss?
If Brighton draw, promotion will be mathematically guaranteed with a Huddersfield loss at Derby.
A draw or loss for both teams will leave the Seagulls in the state of limbo mentioned above - promoted in every way except mathematically.
If Huddersfield achieve a better result at Derby than Brighton do against Wigan, then Chris Hughton's men can win promotion at his former club Norwich on Friday night.
