Collison ‘cannot wait to start work’ when he returns home according to the announcement from West Ham.
The academy graduate will get the chance to share his own experience with the young players after he signed at 17 years old.
The midfielder captained the reserve team before making his senior debut on New Year’s Day in 2008.
Collison spent seven seasons at West Ham making a total of 121 appearances with 14 goals.
However his short career was hampered by a persistent knee problem.
An injury he obtained in 2009 eventually ended his career last year at 27 years old.
