He admitted to talks with Adrian, 30, to clear the air and said: “We’ve spoken a few times, not in the last couple of weeks but when I decided to drop him to give Randy a chance.
“Then, after that, we have spoken a couple of times about his future.
“Adrian is a great professional and he never dropped his level in training one bit. I told him he had to wait for his chance and that is exactly how it is.”
Ireland international Randolph, 29, was installed as Bilic’s first choice in November — but he took stick for mistakes at the Stadium of Light.
And ahead of today’s visit from seventh-placed Everton, Bilic said: “We can’t forget how many times Randy has done a good job for us.

Victor Anicyhebe blocks the attempt of Darren Randolph to meet the ball and Sunderland draw level at the Stadium of LightPA:Press Association
“The whole world knows when a keeper makes a mistake but we are winning as a team, losing as a team.”
But when pressed if Randolph was still his No 1, he added: “We are going to see, we have two really good goalkeepers.
“With keepers they need confidence like every other player.
“It’s wrong to judge keepers on one mistake and to change them on a weekly basis. If you do that, you ‘lose’ both your keepers.” Hammers have conceded 59 league goals this campaign — one more than rock-bottom Sunderland — and Bilic admits too many mistakes are being made.
He has seen his team throw away 22 points from winning positions and added: “We’ve conceded more than we should have, you can’t be happy with your team when you are conceding too many goals.
“We’ve scored enough goals but haven’t had many games where we did not concede or won games 1-0 or 2-1.
“Then suddenly we had games where we have conceded four or five or minimum three, so you can’t be happy with that.”
Toffees hitman Romelu Lukaku, who has scored nine goals in his last nine games, is refusing to sign a new deal at Goodison.
Bilic said: “Some players are very stubborn. But to be fair, Lukaku — or any other player — should know that any club who got to him during a transfer window will only get to him again in six months time if he continues to perform well.
“Some players think they are harming the club — but they can be harming themselves more than anyone.”
