Roared on by an army of travelling fans, Frampton produced a stellar display to dethrone Santa Cruz.
After 12 pulsating rounds, scorecards of 116-112 and 117-111 gave the fight in his favour, while the third judge surprisingly called it level at 114-114.
Following the win, Frampton said: “It’s a dream come true. I had the dream of winning a world title and I won it, but I never thought I’d win in two divisions.
“I won the fight because I didn’t lose control. I earned his respect early.”
