Wayne Rooney gets put through his paces in Manchester United training as Jose Mourinho reveals he could feature

WAYNE ROONEY was put through his paces in Manchester United training on Wednesday as Jose Mourinho reveals he ‘could be included’ against Anderlecht.

The club record-breaking goalscorer, 31, has been out with an ankle injury lately, but looked sharp at Carrington ahead of the Europa League second-leg.

Earlier in the day, Mourinho said: “He’s working now, he’s improving.

“If in this training session [Wednesday afternoon] the answer is positive, I would select him to be on the bench tomorrow.

“I cannot confirm now but the paparazzi that live in the Lowry Hotel, they can take the picture when we go to the hotel at six o’clock and see if Wayne is selected.

“I would like him to be selected, yes, I would like to have him as an option.”

Juan Mata, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones however did not train and will not feature in the game through injury.

With the exception of Andy Najar, who is doubtful, Anderlecht have a full team available for the crunch clash at Old Trafford.

United drew the first-leg in Belgium 1-1 and are indebted to Henrikh Mkhitaryan's away goal which puts Mourinho's men in the driver's seat for Thursday's game.
