‘Warrior’ David Luiz posts photo in hospital gown with needle but Chelsea not worried about defender’s knee injury

CHELSEA have played down fears over David Luiz’s knee injury after the defender posted a photo of himself in a hospital gown with an emoji needle.

The Blues centre-back captioned the Instagram snap “Let’s do it. Hahahah” and there appeared to be blood dropping from the needle.

However, the club have moved to allay concerns over his wellbeing as the Brazilian continues to manage a knee injury.

Luiz has struggled since he was hacked down by Sergio Aguero during an ill-tempered end to Chelsea’s 3-1 win at the Etihad in December.

Aguero was sent off and fears have mounted over how Luiz’s absence could hit the Blues’ title run-in, especially after he was seen hobbling during the 1-1 draw at Burnley on Sunday.

But Luiz - who has been playing with heavy strapping on his right knee - was hailed as a "warrior" by boss Antonio Conte.

The Italian said: "He's playing with this little pain in his knee. But he's a warrior."

Premier League leaders Chelsea next play at Wolves in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday and Luiz is expected to be rested for the clash.

Kurt Zouma and Nathan Ake are other defensive options who could cover for Luiz at Molineux.
